I now completely understand how and why people love running and biking in races so much! I never understood it before, but after my biathlon on Sunday, I understand the adrenaline rush and sheer pleasure of racing. Not that I’ve never raced before, but it’s been a while, and it’s never been this intense!
This race included over 200 people. We had to be at the start very early to register and get our numbers. Even though I had to wake up at 5am, I was wide awake and completely excited.
The sunrise was beautiful as everyone was getting their bikes and other gear ready for transition.
Most of the racers were doing the triathlon (120 meter swim, 30k bike, 5 k run) and some others (pro athletes) were doing an even longer triathlon (200 meters, 40k bike and 10k run, crazy!). I did the 30k bike and 5k run, which was difficult enough….for now
A couple of my co-workers did the race too. The two men on the end did the triathlon, then the girl in the middle (Kristen, another dietitian) did the biathlon with me.
Here’s my bike, hanging from the pole and getting ready for a nice ride!
After the race we decided to take a picture with the large blob of FAT that was at a nutrition booth at the end of the race. Yeah, random, but we were giddy. My final time was 1 hour and 39 minutes. Not bad considering my goal was to get under two hours! Next year my goal is to get under 1 hour 30, and I may do the swimming as well, we’ll see.
