Who this policy covers
This policy explains what personal data candidrd.com (“The Candid RD”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and what choices you have. The site is run by The Candid RD Editorial Team. You can reach us through our contact page.
What we collect
We collect only what we need to run the site.
- Contact form. If you write to us through the contact page, we receive your name, email address and message. We use them to reply and to keep a record of the request.
- Comments. If comments are open on a page and you leave one, we store the name, email address, website (if given), comment text, IP address and browser details you send. Your email address is not shown. Comments may be checked by an anti-spam service.
- Server logs. Our hosting and delivery services record your IP address, browser type, the pages you request and the time. We use logs to keep the site running, find errors and block abuse.
- Cookies and similar technologies. See the section below.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We and our partners use them for these purposes.
- To make the site work, remember your consent choice and protect forms from spam. The contact form uses Google reCAPTCHA, which reads some browser and device data to tell people from bots. Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms apply to reCAPTCHA.
- To show and measure advertising, as explained next.
- To measure how the site is used, if we add analytics. We will update this page before we do.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some parts of the site may work less well if you do. Our cookies policy gives more detail.
Advertising and Google AdSense
We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites.
Google’s use of advertising cookies, including the DART cookie, lets Google and its partners show ads to you based on your visit to our site and other sites on the internet. When Google processes data from sites that use its services, it may set or read cookies and receive your IP address and the page address. Read how Google uses this data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
You can opt out of personalised advertising with Google at adssettings.google.com. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Other ad vendors and ad networks may also serve ads on this site through Google’s ad products. Their names and cookie practices are listed in the consent tool described below and in Google’s own pages. We do not sell your personal data for money. Ad vendors may receive data through the cookies above, and in some US states that can count as “sharing” or “sale” for advertising. See “Your rights” for how to opt out.
Consent for visitors in the EEA, UK and Switzerland
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before ad cookies or personalised ads are used. We use Google’s Privacy & messaging consent management platform for this. It follows the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework and shows the ad technology providers in use. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through the privacy options link or message shown on the site, or by clearing your cookies.
Analytics
We do not run an analytics service at the date above. If we add one, such as Google Analytics, we will name it here, say what it collects, and ask for consent where the law requires it.
Hosting, delivery and security services
The site runs on a hosting provider and uses content delivery and security services, which may include Cloudflare and QUIC.cloud. These services process your IP address and request data to deliver pages, cache files and filter attacks. They act as processors for us and have their own privacy policies.
Why we use your data
- To answer your messages (our legitimate interest, or your request).
- To run, secure and fix the site (our legitimate interest).
- To show ads that pay for the site (your consent where the law requires it, otherwise our legitimate interest).
How long we keep data
- Contact messages: up to 24 months after the last message, then deleted.
- Comments: until you ask us to remove them or the page is removed.
- Server logs: kept by our providers for a limited period, set by each provider.
- Cookies: they expire on the dates set by the provider. You can delete them sooner.
Sharing
We share data only with the services above, with people who help us run the site under a duty of confidence, or when the law requires it. We do not sell your contact details.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland (GDPR), you may ask us to give you a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, limit or object to its use, move it, or withdraw consent. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are a California resident (CCPA/CPRA), you may ask what personal information we hold, ask us to delete or correct it, and opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. To use “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”, turn off ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com, use your browser’s Global Privacy Control setting, or contact us. We do not treat you differently for using these rights.
To make a request, use our contact page. We may ask you to confirm who you are, and we aim to reply within 30 days.
Children
This site is for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13, in line with COPPA. If you think a child has sent us data, contact us and we will delete it.
External links
Our pages link to other sites, such as restaurant websites. We do not control them and are not responsible for their privacy practices.
Security
The site uses HTTPS. No method of sending or storing data is fully secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
