About Us

Who we are

The Candid RD is an independent publishing site about simple and honest nutrition. We write recipes, food guides and restaurant menu guides. The site is run by The Candid RD Editorial Team, a small independent publishing team.

Our aim is plain. We want you to find a clear answer fast, with the facts checked and the source shown.

Where the site came from

The Candid RD began around 2009 as the blog of Gina, a registered dietitian. She wrote as “Gina, The Candid RD”. Her own About page, archived in 2013, described the work this way: “I’m a registered dietitian working hard to dispel nutrition myths, and to teach people how to live healthy lives without deprivation.” She also wrote about following a low FODMAPs diet for IBS.

The domain was later bought from her, with her blessing. She wrote the older articles on this site, and they stay under her name with their original dates. We have not edited them to say anything new in her voice.

Gina does not write for the site today, and she does not review our new articles. Please do not read her credential as a claim about the new posts. Those are written by the editorial team, as described below.

What we cover

  • Nutrition basics, explained without fear or fad rules.
  • Recipes and ingredient guides for everyday cooking.
  • Food guides that compare common foods and answer the questions people search for.
  • Restaurant menu guides with prices, sizes and, where the restaurant publishes them, calories.

How we make our content

New articles are drafted by the editorial team with help from AI tools. We use AI to speed up the first draft. We do not use it as a source of facts.

Before an article goes live, a person on the team checks it against primary sources. For menu guides that means the restaurant’s own website or app. For nutrition topics it means official health bodies, government data and published research. We list the main sources on the page.

No new article claims review by a dietitian or doctor, because none is done. If a page ever carries a professional review, it will say who did it and when.

Menu prices change by location and over time. Each menu guide shows a “last checked” date for its prices. We recheck pages and update them when the source changes. The full method is on our editorial policy page.

Corrections

If you find an error, tell us through the contact page. Name the page and the line, and send a source if you have one. We check each report. If it is right, we fix the page and update the “last checked” or “updated” date. If the change is large, we add a short note saying what changed.

Independence and advertising

Ads may appear on this site. They help pay for hosting and writing. They do not decide what we write or what we say about a food or a restaurant.

Sponsored content, if we ever publish any, will be labelled as sponsored. Affiliate links, if we use them, will be marked and explained on the page. We are not affiliated with any restaurant or food brand we write about. Brand names and trademarks belong to their owners. More detail is in our disclaimer.

Not medical advice

Our articles give general information. They are not medical advice and do not replace a registered dietitian or a doctor who knows your health. If you have a condition, an allergy or take medicine, ask a qualified professional before you change your diet.
