Editorial Policy

Who publishes this site

The Candid RD is published by The Candid RD Editorial Team, an independent publishing team. New articles carry the byline “The Candid RD Editorial Team”. We do not use invented writer names, stock photos of people as authors, or credentials we do not hold.

Older articles written by Gina, the registered dietitian who started the site around 2009, stay under her name with their original dates. Her name appears only on articles she wrote.

How we make an article

New articles are drafted by the editorial team with the help of AI tools. We use AI to organise a draft and tighten the wording. A person then reads the draft, checks the facts, and decides whether it is published. AI is not treated as a source.

We say this openly because readers may reasonably ask how a page was made. No new article is reviewed by a dietitian or doctor, and none claims to be.

Why we publish

We publish to answer real questions from people who visit the site, such as what a menu item costs or what is in a food. We do not write pages only to catch search traffic. A page goes live only when it has something clear and checked to tell the reader.

Sources and fact-checking

Every figure, price, date or claim about a third party needs a source a reader can open. We use these, in this order:

  • For menu guides: the restaurant’s official website, app or published nutrition sheet.
  • For nutrition and health topics: government and public health bodies and peer-reviewed research.
  • For recipes: our own testing notes, or credit to the original recipe.

If we cannot confirm a fact from a source like these, we leave it out or say it is not confirmed. We do not invent tests, quotes or experience.

Prices and “last checked” dates

Menu prices change by location and over time. Each menu guide shows the date we last checked the prices and where we got them. We recheck pages on a regular schedule and update them when the source changes. We aim to act quickly on reader reports of a wrong price.

Updates and corrections

When we change a page in a way that matters, we update its date. If a correction changes the meaning of an article, we add a short note that says what was wrong and what is now correct. Report an error through the contact page.

Older articles

Articles from the early years of the site were written before this policy. We review them for broken links, outdated advice and unsafe claims. We update, redirect or remove those that no longer hold up.

Advertising and independence

Ads and any affiliate links do not shape our coverage. Sponsored content is labelled. We do not take payment to say that a food or restaurant is better than another. Read more in our disclaimer and about page.

Medical information

Our content is general and is not medical advice. For personal health decisions, talk to a qualified professional.
