I Finally Get It!

I now completely understand how and why people love running and biking in races so much! I never understood it before, but after my biathlon on Sunday, I understand the adrenaline rush and sheer pleasure of racing. Not that I’ve never raced before, but it’s been a while, and it’s never been this intense!biking in races 1

This race included over 200 people. We had to be at the start very early to register and get our numbers. Even though I had to wake up at 5am, I was wide awake and completely excited.

The sunrise was beautiful as everyone was getting their bikes and other gear ready for transition.biking in races 2biking in races 3

Most of the racers were doing the triathlon (120 meter swim, 30k bike, 5 k run) and some others (pro athletes) were doing an even longer triathlon (200 meters, 40k bike and 10k run, crazy!). I did the 30k bike and 5k run, which was difficult enough….for now

A couple of my co-workers did the race too. The two men on the end did the triathlon, then the girl in the middle (Kristen, another dietitian) did the biathlon with me.biking in races 4

Here’s my bike, hanging from the pole and getting ready for a nice ride!biking in races 5

After the race we decided to take a picture with the large blob of FAT that was at a nutrition booth at the end of the race. Yeah, random, but we were giddy. My final time was 1 hour and 39 minutes. Not bad considering my goal was to get under two hours! Next year my goal is to get under 1 hour 30, and I may do the swimming as well, we’ll see.biking in races 6
